Showbiz Launches New Era of Show & Accomodation Packaging with Unveiling of Expedia® Affiliate Network-Powered STAY & SEE® Online

Australia, August 5th, 2013 - Showbiz International, Australia’s leading ticket and packaging company, has joined forces with the Expedia Affiliate Network (EAN) - a division of the Expedia group, one of the world’s leading online travel companies - to create one of Australia’s most dynamic and flexible online ticket and accommodation packaging service.

Showbiz Stay& See® will soon relaunch with an all new ticket and packaging service in Australia that delivers Showbiz’s national range of real-time, live theatre and event  tickets, combined with best in-market hotel rates across a full range of hotel products and shows, up to the week of performance*. (*subject to ticket availability)

With the new Showbiz Stay& See® online experience, customers will have access to close to 2500 hotels within the EAN system, with hotels pre-matched to the venue location and complemented by TripAdvisor ratings. Customers have the option of re-sorting based on price, popularity, hotel class, or can perform their own individual search.

Showbiz Stay and See bookings can also be combined with Showbiz’s many partner restaurants near to the hotel or venue to ensure a complete, great value, short-break experience - all via one easy transaction on Showbiz.com.au.

The partnership with EAN will ensure that Showbiz can offer customers the best online hotel rates, which will be backed up by the new SHOWBIZ STAY & SEE® PRICE GUARANTEE. Under the guarantee, Showbiz will commit to refunding the difference if customers finds a lower comparable online hotel room rate*, and will include a $50 Showbiz Ticket Cash voucher towards their next purchase.

Says Craig McMaster, CEO of Showbiz International, “Showbiz has always led the way in Australasia with ticket and event packaging for our show and hotel partners, but in recent times we’ve seen the biggest change in our 30 years of operations, with customers booking with much shorter lead times. For instance, previously, someone wanting to travel to Melbourne to see an amazing live experience like King Kong, would most likely have booked many months in advance. Today, it could be as short as just a few weeks, or even days, and Expedia’s dynamic booking system will provide the ultimate in flexibility.”

Expedia Affiliate Network’s Christopher J. Williams, VP and MD, Asia Pacific said, “This is a very exciting time for Showbiz and we are proud to be able to be an integral part of their new Stay&See program.”

The partnership and the launch of the new enhanced website, coincides with the announcement of the blockbuster Baz Lurhmann’s  Strictly Ballroom The Musical, which will be staged at the Sydney Lyric Theatre from early 2014. Like the Melbourne-only King Kong, the Sydney season of Strictly Ballroom is expected to generate a vast amount of interstate and international interest that will require significant accommodation inventory.

Showbiz's new Stay and See program will start on Tuesday, 6 August, 2013, coinciding with the launch of Strictly Ballroom the Musical. Tickets, VIP experiences and packages for Strictly Ballroom, and hundreds of other great shows and experiences can be made by visiting www.showbiz.com.au.

Consumers Demand More from Airlines' Hotel Booking Offerings

New research from EAN shows airlines could be losing out on ancillary revenue opportunities by only offering basic hotel booking options through their websites

London, 7 November 2012. Research released today from Expedia® Affiliate Network (EAN) reveals a golden opportunity for airlines to boost ancillary revenues through enhancing their hotel booking services. The study[i] of 2,000 consumers in the US and UK, who use online services to book travel, commissioned by EAN, found that less than half of the consumers surveyed (48%) currently book hotels through airline websites. Of those that don’t, almost all (90%) state they would be willing to do this if the offer was convenient or compelling enough.

The research shows that there is an appetite amongst consumers for a richer hotel booking experience from airline websites. When asked about what features consumers are looking for when they search for non-air components to accompany their flight, the top request was package offers and special deals (60%),  with nearly all consumers in the UK and US (91%) expressing an interest in receiving offers on relevant hotels for their trip. Other top features requested by travellers include user reviews on relevant hotels (37%) and suggestions from the site for hotels for their trip (36%).

EAN also examined the most frustrating aspects of booking any aspect of travel through an airline website, with the top three consumer frustrations found to be: hidden costs (51%), unclear pricing (33%) and limited options (25%).

Commenting on the need to meet travellers’ requests for booking accommodation on airline sites, EAN’s Benoit Jolin, VP Product & Marketing, explains, “While most leading airlines now have a functional hotel booking proposition, these findings show there is ample room to improve hotel retailing opportunities and maximise ancillary revenues in this area. Optimising conversion by knowing which hotels to offer to different flight shopper profiles and when, increasing customer touch points and offering hotel deals to enrich the airline loyalty programme  are just a few of the retailing opportunities that can dramatically boost revenues and airline brand loyalty. By not taking advantage of this, airlines certainly are missing out and potentially losing ground on their competitors.”

Jolin adds, “For many airlines, hotel retailing is not their core business, and this sometimes results in a prudent but sub-optimal retail strategy. Co-branding is one example, leading to possible brand erosion and long term revenue shortfalls. Making a hotel suggestion based on flight purchase behaviour combined with an optimised shopping experience can drive additional ancillary revenue streams over time. This can also help optimise search marketing economics. Add to that the ability to offer package savings to flight shoppers, as well as targeted deals and merchandising specials and you are now really fuelling customer retention and extending the airline brand experience.”
